When it’s raining in Canada, Roger and I press on. We drove from Dawson Creek, British Columbia
to Watson Lake, Yukon. The distance
traveled was 997km, at an average of 60 km/m.
Roger uses the GPS for his speedometer, because for some unknown reason
the speedometer on the RV doesn’t have km/hr.
I guess Winnebago didn’t think folks would be leaving the USA with their
RVs. Oh well…
We saw several shy animals along the way, with only a black
bear, bisonl lazily grazing on the far side of the road and big horn sheep
close enough to snap a picture. We also
saw a cow moose, a bull moose, a couple of grizzlies and caribou. However what we saw most was rain. Roger kept driving in and out of rain
showers. Of course now that we’ve
stopped for the evening, it’s not raining.
It is a good night for taking a stroll, since it doesn’t get dark here
until after 10 pm. Watson Lake’s “most
famous” tourist attractions is Sign Post Forest. It was started in 1942 by Carl Lindley, a
homesick GI, while working on the Alaskan Highway. He erected a sign pointing to Danville,
IL. There are now over 72,000 unique
signs. I think given the time, Roger
would have liked to read every one. Time
to hit the showers and get ready for bed, as there’s a caravan of big monster
RV’s we’d like to get ahead of tomorrow. The internet is slow here, so pp no pictures for you today.
